Gastronorm Pan Manufacturers in China: A Sourcing Guide
Most of the world supply of commercial gastronorm pans is made in three Chinese production clusters. This guide covers where they are, who manufactures in each, and — the part that actually decides whether an order goes well — the specification questions that make two quotes comparable before you commit to a container.
This is a sourcing guide, not a ranking. Manufacturer capability, capacity and certification are claims that belong in your own supplier audit rather than in anyone else list, so this page gives location and product focus and then shows you how to verify the rest yourself.
The three production clusters
Jiangmen, Guangdong
The densest concentration of stainless GN pan production in China, much of it in Hetang Town and Xinhui District.
Heavy OEM and ODM orientation. Most factories here will run both EU-line (EN 631) and US-line (hotel pan) tooling, which matters if you are supplying both markets from one container.
Chaozhou, Guangdong
A long-established stainless hollowware and kitchenware cluster, with Caitang Town as the centre of gravity.
Strong on standard formats and high-volume runs. Frequently the source behind trading-company quotes that do not name a factory.
Qingdao, Shandong
Northern cluster, generally broader hardware and metal fabrication rather than kitchenware alone.
Often the better route for GN accessories — lids, seals, trolleys and rack systems — rather than the pans themselves.
The cluster matters more than it looks. Factories in one town share tooling suppliers, steel merchants and labour, which is why quotes from a single cluster tend to land within a narrow band. A price well outside that band is information: it usually means a different steel grade or a thinner gauge rather than a better deal.

Listed alphabetically by cluster, not ranked. Locations are taken from company registrations and public directory listings. Certifications and capacity are deliberately omitted: those are supplier claims and should be verified against a certificate and a model number, as set out below.
How to qualify a GN pan supplier
Two quotes for the same GN 1/1 at 65 mm can differ by a third and both be honest, because they are not describing the same pan. These are the variables that close that gap, in the order they matter.
Steel grade, in writing
304 (18/8 or 18/10) is the commercial standard. 201 looks identical on arrival and pits faster under salt, acid and dishwasher chemistry. A quote that does not state the grade is not a quote you can compare — and the price gap between 201 and 304 is most of the difference between two otherwise similar numbers.
Gauge
Catering GN pans typically run 0.6–0.8 mm. Thinner stock warps on a hot line and distorts where it rests on a well lip. Ask for the gauge at the base and at the wall; they are not always the same.
Internal corner radius
Tight corners trap product and fail visual hygiene checks. Generous radii clean easily and cost a little capacity. Either way, ask — it tells you whether the tooling was designed for foodservice or adapted to it.
Flange profile
The rolled or reinforced top edge carries the pan on the well and resists denting. It is the first thing to fail on cheap pans and the hardest thing to judge from a photograph. Ask for a cross-section drawing.
EU-line or US-line
Confirm which standard the tooling cuts. Gastronorm (EN 631) and the American hotel pan are close enough to look the same and different enough to bind in the wrong well.
Certification against a model number
NSF, LFGB and FDA compliance attach to specific products, not to companies. Ask for the certificate and check the model number on it matches the item you are buying.
Sample before container
One pan shipped ahead costs a few days and settles grade, gauge, finish and fit permanently. Skipping this step is the single most common sourcing mistake.
Confirm the standard before the price
The single most expensive sourcing mistake in this category is ordering the wrong system. Gastronorm follows EN 631 and is built on a 530 by 325 mm module. The American hotel pan is a separate inch-based standard. They sit close enough together to photograph identically, and far enough apart that a pan can bind in the well or sink past the flange.
Before requesting quotes, decide which system the destination kitchen runs and specify it by name with dimensions beside it. The hotel pan versus gastronorm comparison sets out where the two diverge, and the GN pan size guide carries every footprint in mm, cm and inches.
Red flags in a quote
- A quote that names no steel grade, or says only stainless steel.
- Certification logos on a website with no certificate number or model reference behind them.
- A supplier who cannot say whether tooling is EU-line or US-line.
- Photographs that are clearly catalogue renders rather than the actual production line.
- Unwillingness to send a single sample before a bulk order.
- A price well below the cluster norm with no explanation — it is almost always 201 steel or a thinner gauge.
Frequently asked questions
Where are most gastronorm pans made in China?
Three clusters account for most production. Jiangmen in Guangdong is the densest concentration for stainless GN pans, particularly Hetang Town and Xinhui District. Chaozhou, also in Guangdong, is a long-established stainless kitchenware cluster. Qingdao in Shandong is broader metal fabrication and is often the better route for GN accessories such as lids, seals and rack systems.
What is the difference between EU-line and US-line GN pans?
EU-line follows the European EN 631 gastronorm standard, built on a 530 by 325 mm module. US-line follows the American hotel pan system, sized in inches. The two are close enough to look interchangeable and different enough to bind or sit loose in the wrong well, so the tooling line has to be confirmed before ordering.
Should I specify 304 or 201 stainless steel?
304, written as 18/8 or 18/10, for anything washed daily. 201 is cheaper and visually identical on arrival, but corrodes faster under salt, acidic food and commercial dishwasher detergent. On a pan that goes through a machine every service, 201 is a false economy — and an unstated grade is the most common reason two quotes appear to differ on price.
What gauge should a commercial GN pan be?
Most catering GN pans run 0.6 to 0.8 mm. Thinner stock warps on a hot line and distorts at the flange where it rests on the well lip. Ask for the gauge at both the base and the wall, since they are not always specified the same.
How do I verify a supplier certification?
Certifications such as NSF, LFGB and FDA compliance attach to specific products, not to companies. Ask for the certificate itself and confirm the model number on it matches the item being quoted. A logo on a website is not a certificate.
What minimum order quantity should I expect?
MOQ varies widely by factory and by whether you need custom tooling or a standard format. Standard GN sizes from an existing mould carry far lower minimums than a bespoke depth or a private-label stamp. Ask for the MOQ per size and per depth, not a single figure for the order.
Is it better to buy from a factory or a trading company?
Both work. A factory gives direct control over grade and gauge; a trading company or solution supplier can consolidate several product lines into one container, which matters when GN pans are one line item in a full kitchen fit-out. What matters is whether whoever you buy from can answer the specification questions without checking with someone else.
How many GN pans fit in a container?
Pans nest, so the figure depends far more on depth than on footprint. Shallow pans nest tightly and ship efficiently; deep pans do not. Ask for the nested carton dimensions and units per carton rather than a pan count, and calculate from there.
Where COMMI fits
COMMI is a commercial kitchen solutions supplier with factory-level manufacturing experience, rather than a GN-pan-only factory. We supply gastronorm-compatible products — stainless GN pan sets and PESU high-heat polymer pans — as part of wider equipment and kitchen design packages, which is useful when pans are one line item in a full fit-out and you would rather consolidate a container than manage several factories.
If you only need pans in volume, a dedicated factory in the Jiangmen or Chaozhou cluster will usually serve you better, and the checklist above is written to help you buy from one well.
